On this Day In Rock back on September 20th, 2012 Metallica's 1986 album, "Master Of Puppets," was named the Greatest Heavy Metal Album Of All Time in a new online poll by readers of Rolling Stone magazine.

Metallica dominated the poll by taking four of the top ten spots. "Metal fans are a very passionate bunch," wrote the Rolling Stone editors. "They're also very opinionated, so when we asked them to vote for their favorite metal albums we expected a huge response. (continue)

As Ozzy Osbourne launched his lengthy final world tour back in 2018, dubbed No More Tours 2, he took a look back and revealed what he is most surprised about his legendary career on this Day in Rock.

He said at the time that "The longevity" is the biggest surprise. He explained "I'm 70 this year (in December). I remember when I got my first Black Sabbath album. I was happy that I'd made an album. Then, the manager came in and said, 'Your album got to #17 on the charts,' and it stayed there for like two years. We were touring, we came to America, we experienced the world. On this Day in Rock 2018 our partner hennemusic reported KISS opened the season 13 finale of NBC-TV's America's Got Talent on September 19 (2018) with a performance of their 1976 classic, "Detroit Rock City", and confirmed plans for their farewell tour during the broadcast.

The trek was billed as "One Last Kiss: End Of The Road World Tour." "This is gonna be our last tour," said Paul Stanley on the program. "It will be the most explosive, biggest show we've ever done. People who love us, come see us. If you've never seen us, this is the time. This will be the show." (continue)

Aerosmith and Yungblud are streaming their new single "My Only Angel," the first taste of their forthcoming collaborative EP "One More Time", which will be hitting stores on November 21st.

All Time Low have premiered a music video for their new single "Butterflies". The song comes from their forthcoming tenth full-length studio release, Everyone's Talking! - due on October 17th.

An urgent, emotional kiss-off set over pummeling riffs and martial drums, "Butterflies" feels both instantly familiar and nostalgic while also exploring new sonic territory. The band has simultaneously released the official music video for the song, which was shot at Vu Nashville and finds All Time Low delivering a no-holds-barred, rollicking performance of the song. Mercury Studios will release on November 21 Def Leppard Diamond Star Heroes Live From Sheffield. The show, recorded in 2023 in their hometown of Sheffield at Bramall Lane during "The World Tour" with Motley Crue, will be available on Blu-ray+2CD, 4K UHD, 2CD and 2LP. Pressed on red, white and black splatter, the vinyl nods to the home kit colors of Sheffield United FC, who play their home matches at Bramall Lane. Additionally, the 4K UHD will be the band's first 4K release and includes One Night Only Live At The Leadmill, previously released last year.

Marking the start of their co-headlining European tour with Motley Crue this concert on May 22, 2023 in Sheffield, England served as a homecoming show for Def Leppard, 47 years since the bands inception. Performing their second ever hometown stadium concert to a sold-out crowd of almost 40,000 fans, the Blu-ray+2CD & 2CD and 2LP versions include classics "Photograph" and "Pour Some Sugar on Me" as well as UK live debuts "Take What You Want" and "This Guitar", the latter dedicated to the band's late great guitarist Steve Clark. Midwest pop-punk veterans Motion City Soundtrack make a triumphant return with the release of their new album, 'The Same Old Wasted Wonderful World' out now via Epitaph Records. High atop the wishlist of The Cranberries' fans has been an official release of their 1995 acoustic concert for MTV's epochal, intimate performance series Unplugged. Never before available as a standalone release, MTV Unplugged will finally be available on November 7, 2025 on vinyl, CD and digital via Island Records/Ume (a limited-edition colored vinyl version featuring an alternate cover will also be available exclusively through COMPLEX). Previously only obtainable on the limited 3LP 30th Anniversary Edition of No Need to Argue which was released on June 27, 2025, this set sold out immediately upon announcement.

Originally recorded on February 14, 1995, the special nine-song performance made its broadcast debut on April 18th that year. Filmed at Howard Gilman Opera House in Brooklyn, NY, the episode was aired during the sixth season of the acclaimed series that highlighted a stripped down and acoustic setting by some of the most popular artists and musicians of the era. Rags Rosenberg just released his new album "Song of the Bricoleur", and to celebrate we asked him to tell us about the record's title track. Here is the story:

I lived in Nashville for 14 years, and although there's no place on earth better for learning the craft of songwriting, I was always a Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan kind of writer and didn't fit in that country radio scene. When I moved to Joshua Tree, the magic of the Mojave, its vastness and extremes, brought me back to my roots, and I started writing more layered, image-driven songs. "Song of the Bricoleur" was one of the first of a batch of songs that emerged as I started putting the album together. It became the centerpiece. (continue)
